The second day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw the most unfortunate incident for England and Punjab Kings batter Jonny Bairstow. Standing at the non-striker’s end, Bairstow got run out by Delhi Capitals pacer Ishant Sharma who directed Prabhsimran Singh’s shot right onto the stumps in front of the umpire.

This kind of dismissal is pretty rare in the sport and saw Punjab lose their important batter cheaply at just 9 runs in the 2nd innings.
What Does The Rule Say?
According to the rule, if the bowler gets in contact with the ball that is hit by the batter before it hits the stumps, the non-striker will be declared out if he is not inside his crease.
The third umpire confirmed Ishant Sharma’s touch on the ball which saw Punjab struggle at 42/2 at 3.5 overs. Punjab have a competitive total of 175 to chase at Mullanpur.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals Impact substitute Abishek Porel went beast mode in the final over of the 1st innings, hitting Harshal Patel for 25 runs in the final over.
