Phil Salt’s fiery knock guided the hosts to a comfortable victory after an all-round performance from the team in front of their home fans.
KKR Bowlers Restrict LSG Batters
Batting first, KL Rahul’s team showed determination to capitalize on the powerplay while the ball was still new. Despite a steady 39 from the skipper, his opening partner Quinton de Kock (10) departed early after showing promise with some good shots initially.
KKR’s significant acquisition, Mitchell Starc, also made an impact in the match by claiming his first wicket. Deepak Hooda fell victim to a superb catch by Ramandeep Singh within the powerplay. Starc concluded his spell with 3 wickets to his credit.
Ayush Badoni attempted to replicate his previous fixture’s performance to bolster LSG’s total. However, he could only manage a 27-ball 29 as wickets fell at regular intervals, leaving Lucknow Super Giants struggling at 111/5 within 15 overs.
KKR’s bowlers applied consistent pressure throughout the innings, with both spinners and pacers contributing to their success. Currently placed 2nd on the table, KKR’s bowling attack proved effective.
Enter LSG’s savior, Nicholas Pooran, known for his ability to rescue his team and secure competitive totals. Pooran’s impressive 45 runs propelled the visitors to what could be considered an above-average total of 161/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Phil Salt’s Assault At Eden Gardens
In reply, despite losing opener Sunil Narine early on in the game, the KKR fans got to witness a Phil Salt masterclass on the night as the English opener went beast mode on LSG bowlers.
Phil Salt’s fiery 89* made the Kolkata Knight Riders’ job all that easy while chasing in front of their fans. His innings was supported by skipper Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten run-a-ball 38. The duo stitched up a brilliant 120-run partnership for their team which took them to their 4th victory in the tournament.
