Iyer-Pandey Rescue KKR Innings vs MI
Put to bat first, Kolkata Knight Riders had a start to forget as their opener Phil Salt got sent back to the pavilion on just 5 courtesy of a brilliant opening over by Nuwan Thushara. What followed was a top-order meltdown as MI bowlers increased the pressure and took out the Top 5 batters within 7 overs of the innings.
While high-flying Sunil Narine departed at 8 runs, skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh were also dismissed on single digits in the innings which saw KKR struggle at 57/5 at 6.1 overs.
However, it was impact substitute Manish Pandey and Venkatesh Iyer who stitched up a valuable 83-run partnership in the middle and made sure KKR didn’t let MI have the win easily on the night when the hosts had to win to keep their playoff spots alive.
Venkatesh Iyer’s blazing knock was supported by Manish Pandey’s 42 runs till 16.2 overs. In the end, it was Iyer who top-scored with 70 runs for the visitors and powered the Kolkata Knight Riders to a competitive 169 in their 20 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah restricted KKR from scoring runs in the death overs and ended with impressive figures of 3/18 which also marked his 50th wicket at the Wankhede in IPL.
