In a huge blow to Indian Premier League (IPL) side Delhi Capitals, their star batter Harry Brook has opted out of the 17th edition of IPL due to personal reasons. The England batsman, who was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 4 crore, has opted to withdraw from the upcoming IPL season, commencing on March 22.

Brook’s decision to pull out of the league extends beyond the IPL; he was also conspicuously absent from the recent England team. Initially expected to feature in the Test series in India, Brook withdrew from the Test squad abruptly, with both the England team management and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) requesting privacy for the player and his family.
“The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space,” stated the ECB in a press release.
With many English players opting out of tournament especially the IPL, this isn’t the first time a player has had to do this. The likes of Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Mitchell Starc etc have all done the same as well.
