“They absolutely love it, to be honest. They talk about the same characteristics. When you’re talking about being led brilliantly, you always say, ‘Will the team follow him?’ When it’s MS Dhoni, you never question that. He leaves an indelible mark on every player. He instils the belief that they have the ability to go out and play with the pride that’s associated with CSK, and lets them know that everybody is backing them,” Morgan said while speaking at JioCinema.

Ben Stokes Loves Playing Under MS Dhoni

Stokes, known for his confidence, reportedly enjoyed his time under Dhoni’s leadership during his stint with Pune for two years and while sharing the dressing room with him last season.

“Ben Stokes, who has an incredible amount of self-belief, loved playing under MS Dhoni. He did it at Pune for a couple of years and obviously shared the dressing room with him last year. They absolutely love wearing that yellow shirt,” Morgan added.

Dhoni, whose last competitive cricket match was the IPL 2023 final, where his team triumphed over Gujarat Titans in a thrilling encounter, is set to return to action in the IPL 2024 opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Despite undergoing knee surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process due to an ailment that sidelined him in the previous season, the 42-year-old is reportedly fit and rejuvenated.

Although Dhoni experienced leg soreness, he continued to give his best performance both behind the wickets and with the bat whenever the opportunity arose. There is speculation surrounding whether this IPL season will mark Dhoni’s final match and retirement from competitive cricket. However, Dhoni has remained tight-lipped about his future, having faced retirement questions since the 2020 IPL edition, following his retirement from international cricket for India.
