Mumbai Register Best IPL Total
Choosing to bat first, Mumbai Indians’ opening duo, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan adopted an aggressive stance at Wankhede Stadium, swiftly amassing runs. Rohit, who reached the impressive milestone of 1000 runs against Delhi Capitals, showcased remarkable power-hitting across the ground.
The powerplay concluded with Mumbai at 75/0, hinting at a promising total. However, Rohit fell short of his half-century, departing for 49 runs off 27 balls, featuring 6 boundaries and 3 sixes. Notably, this isn’t the first time Rohit has achieved the feat against Delhi, having also achieved it against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Suryakumar Yadav’s return at number three was marred by a dismissal for a duck, courtesy of Anrich Nortje. Despite this setback, Skipper Hardik Pandya and Tim David ensured a formidable total. David’s 45 was supplemented by a dynamic unbeaten cameo of 39 runs by Romario Shepherd in the final over, propelling Mumbai Indians to 234/5.
235 Too Much For Delhi
In reply, Delhi opener Prithvi Shaw scored a brilliant 40-ball 66 which kept Delhi on track for the chase. However, wickets falling on the other end kept the pressure on Delhi who failed to maintain the required run rate in their innings.
Abhishek Porel took his chance with both hands on the day and scored a spirited 41. Tristan Stubbs top scored on the night with a 25-ball 71* which was unable to take Delhi to the mammoth target of 235, giving Hardik Pandya his first win as Mumbai captain.
Jasprit Bumrah got two wickets to his name and reached 150 wickets in his IPL career as well.
