GT Spinners Dominate Proceedings
Choosing to bat first, the Punjab team saw their openers, Prabhsimran Singh and Sam Curran, making a solid start during the initial overs. Prabhsimran Singh contributed 35 runs off 21 balls before being dismissed, while Sam Curran was out at 20 runs, courtesy of a delivery by Rashid Khan.
In his second appearance of the season, PBKS batsman Rilee Roussouw failed to leave a significant impact, getting dismissed for just 9 runs. Vice-captain Jitesh Sharma also struggled to assert his dominance, with the GT bowlers gaining control over the middle order.
Punjab found themselves relying once again on the partnership of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma, but both players failed to stabilize the innings, accumulating only 11 runs collectively. This was due to an impressive performance by the GT spinners.
Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore led the GT bowling attack with 3 wickets, while Noor Ahmed claimed 2 wickets. Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma also chipped in with one wicket each.
Prabhsimran Singh emerged as the top scorer for the home team, but Punjab Kings could only muster a below-par total of 142 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
GT Jump To 6th
In reply, Gujarat skipper Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha started steadily but couldn’t maintain the partnership for a long time. Shubman Gill had to depart after scoring 35 runs courtesy of a Liam Livingstone delivery.
Sai Sudharshan’s gritty 31 also helped the visitors get close to the target but wasn’t sufficient for them to feel comfortable in the chase.
Struggling a little at 103/4 in the 16th over, it was Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan who took it upon themselves to steer GT to the finish line in the end.
Rahul Tweatia’s 36*-run cameo took Gujarat home as they bagged their 4th win of the tournament and jumped to 6th place in the table as well.
