Gujarat Batting Order Meltdown
Batting first, Gujarat captain Shubman Gill fell early, scoring just 8 runs, triggering a collapse in the top order. The first four batters of the Titans managed only 30 runs collectively, facing tough challenges from Delhi’s pacers Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Ishant Sharma, who exploited the pitch’s swing effectively.
During the powerplay, Ishant Sharma and Mukesh Kumar took 2 and 1 wickets respectively, leaving Gujarat struggling at 30/4, their lowest powerplay score this season.
As the game progressed, spinners took charge, claiming two more wickets for Gujarat, with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant contributing with swift work behind the stumps, resulting in stumpings of Abhinav Manohar and impact player Shahrukh Khan. This left the home team at 48/6 by the ninth over.
Rashid Khan emerged as the top scorer for the Titans with 31 runs, but Gujarat only managed to post a total of 89 runs on the board. They would hope their bowling lineup replicates Delhi’s impressive performance in the innings.
Delhi Jump To 7th
In reply, DC openers Prithvi Shaw and Jack Frazer McGurk started well with McGurk hitting sixes and fours within the first 2 overs. However, McGurk was dismissed at just 20 courtesy of a Spencer Johnson delivery.
Shaw too got dismissed soon enough at 7 runs as Sandeep Warrier opened up his account for the night. It was Shai Hope and impact substitute Abishek Porel who fired the visitors right at the finish line. As Sandeep Warrier took Porel out of the game at 15, skipper Rishabh Pant made sure there were no slip-ups and secured a 6-wicket win for his team in the end.
The win took Delhi to 6th on the points table and saw a significant amount of change in the net run rate as well.
