DC vs RR: Match 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) witnessed Delhi Capitals take down Rajasthan Royals in what was another high-scoring thriller at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 7.
Sanju Samson and co. failed to regain their top spot in the league after losing the spot to KKR recently. The 20-run win also put the hosts closer to the playoff spots with 12 points on the table.

DC Post 200+ Total vs RR
Opting to bat first, DC’s opening pair of Jake Frazer McGurk and Prithvi Abishek Porel capitalized on the favorable batting conditions and propelled Delhi to a formidable total during the powerplay.
Frazer McGurk showcased a stunning performance, achieving a fifty off just 20 balls before falling victim to Ravichandran Ashwin’s delivery in the fifth over. Meanwhile, his partner Abishek Porel continued to excel, contributing a remarkable 65 runs for DC.
At 144/4 after 12.4 overs, skipper Rishabh Pant suffered a dismissal soon after, courtesy of Yuzvendra Chahal, who claimed his wicket for 15 runs. Chahal’s success marked a milestone as he became the first Indian to reach 350 T20 wickets.
Tristan Stubbs and Gulbadin Naib endeavored to sustain the run rate, aiming for another total exceeding 200 in the first innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Leading the RR bowling attack, Ravichandran Ashwin concluded his spell with impressive figures of 3/24 in four overs.
Tristan Stubbs’ dynamic cameo of 41 runs propelled Delhi to a final score of 221/8 as DC’s batters continued their trend of surpassing the 200-run mark in matches against opposing teams.
Sanju Samson’s 86 Goes In Vain
In reply, Rajasthan Royals didn’t get off to a good start as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal departed cheaply at 4 runs in the very first over courtesy of a Khaleel Ahmed delivery.
His opening partner Jos Buttler was also sent back to the pavilion quite early on just 19 runs. It was skipper Sanju Samson who led by example and scored a blazing 86 on the night which took Rajasthan to the brink of victory.
Shubham Dubey’s 12-ball 25 also helped put some runs on the board but it was the DC bowlers who did the job on the night as Samson’s knock went in vain in the end. Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed starred with the ball and took 2 wickets each on the night.
Delhi Capitals got their points tally to 12 on the night which strengthened their playoff hopes in the tournament.
