McGurk’s 84 Took DC To 257/4 vs MI
Put to bat first in the first match of the Saturday doubleheader, DC openers went beast mode as Jake Frazer McGurk and Abishek Porel fired Delhi to a great start against the 5-time champions. While Frazer McGurk started with a 15-ball fifty on the day, Abishek too kept contributing with good shots from time to time.
Delhi Capitals reached their highest powerplay total ever on the day with the score at 92/0 at the end of 6 overs. Even skipper Hardik Pandya was thrashed on the day as McGurk and Porel set the stage for the hosts to post another 200+ total. McGurk departed after an unbelievable knock of a 27-ball 84.
With Rishabh Pant coming onto the crease at 180/3 at 13.4 overs, the Delhi fans were anticipating another blazing knock from the skipper.
Pant started where he left off in the previous game and took DC to 200 within 17 overs. With Pant departing at 29, Tristan Stubbs also helped Delhi post a formidable total in the 1st innings as his 25-ball 48* took Delhi to an impressive total of 257/4 in their 20 overs.
DC Bowlers Restrict Mumbai At Home
In reply, Mumbai openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma failed to give the visitors a good start with the duo being sent back to the pavilion at a collective total of just 28 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav departed after 28 runs as well after which Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya took the crease to help their side gain some momentum in the chase. With skipper Hardik Pandya striking at a strike rate of above 200 in the middle of the innings, MI still needed a longer innings by him to take the team over the finish line.
However, DC’s impact substitute Rasikh Dar Salam took the all-important wicket of Hardik (46), who failed to make his half-century on the night.
Tilak Varma top scored on the night with 63 runs for MI as DC bowlers were eventually successful in defending their mammoth total in front of their fans as Mumbai got restricted at just 247/9 in their 20 overs.
Rasikh and Mukesh Kumar ended with 3 wickets each on the night as DC continued to strengthen their playoff hopes in IPl 2024.
