The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made an announcement on Monday, unveiling the complete schedule for the remainder of the IPL. While numerous marquee matchups are highlighted in the calendar, arguably the most significant rivalry between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will only occur once in the league stage. This highly anticipated clash is scheduled for April 14 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Historically, these teams have faced each other twice in the round-robin stage. However, with the tournament expanding to a 10-team format, a new scheduling format has been implemented.

In 2022, with the introduction of Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, teams were initially divided into two groups. This group format was retained in 2023 and continued into the 2024 season. Notably, a similar group format was also employed in 2012 when there were 10 teams in the tournament.

As per the 2024 format, each team competes against the other teams within its group twice, resulting in a total of eight matches for each team. With six matches remaining, each team will face four teams from the opposite group once, while the opponent for the remaining two matches will be determined through a draw. This ensures a balanced fixture schedule for all participating teams in the tournament.

Chennai Super Kings find themselves in Group B alongside Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024 season. They are scheduled to play against each of these teams twice. Meanwhile, in the other group, consisting of Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals, CSK will face four teams once and Lucknow Super Giants twice, determined through a draw system.

Similarly, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are placed in separate groups, meaning they will only meet once in the league stage. RCB is slated to play Kolkata Knight Riders twice, along with facing each of the other four teams from the different group once. Additionally, RCB will play against their groupmates twice each as part of the group stage fixtures.
