The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 player auction is likely to be held in Dubai on December 18 or 19.
The IPL auction will be preceded by the auction for the Women’s Premier League (WPL), which is expected to take place on December 9. Unlike IPL, the WPL auction is likely to be held in India.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the BCCI hasn’t sent any formal notification to the franchises but it has been learnt that the IPL auction is all set to be held in Dubai. Notably, the Indian cricket board had considered holding last year’s auction in Istanbul but eventually settled on Kochi.
“Given last year’s precedent, the Dubai plan may be tentative, but all IPL franchises have been informed of the Gulf city’s consideration as the auction venue,” the report said.
The report also mentioned that the trading window is currently open but no player has been exchanged among the IPL franchises so far. However, some high-salaried players who couldn’t perform upto the expectations in the last IPL season could potentially be released before the auction.
The MS-Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings had won the IPL 2023 title after beating Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, the BCCI is yet to inform the owners about the venue and dates for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction. It has been learnt that WPL could be scheduled for February this year.
It will also be interesting to see whether WPL 2024 will be held in a single city, similar to last year when the entire league was hosted in Mumbai, or if it will be spread across different venues of the country this time around.
