New Delhi: Indian Premier League's (IPL) 2023 defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) started their campaign on a winning note against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but they also faced the major blow of the tournament in their first match itself as star top-order batter Kane Williamson has been ruled out of IPL 2023 with a knee injury he had sustained in the opening game of the tournament.
Williamson to return New Zealand
The 32-year-old batter will head home next week and be seen by relevant medical specialists to establish a treatment plan, according to New Zealand Cricket.
GT released the video of Kane Williamson on Monday's morning. The star batter confirmed that he will be flying back home.
“Sad to be leaving so soon. I will miss the camp for sure. See you soon,” Williamson said in the video.
“Just wanna wish the Gujarat Titans team all the best for the remainder of the season. Wish I could have been there with you all but not to be. And I also want to thank the fans for all their love support and I look forward to a speedy recovery. Thank you,” he concluded before getting into his transport.
