New Delhi: For the first time in four years, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to host the opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Opening Ceremony is returning back for the first time since Covid-19 outbreak.

Defending champions Gujarat Titans will square off against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in the first match of the most anticipated tournament on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Bollywood’s diva to perform 

As per the media report, Rashmika Mandhana and Tamannaah Bhatia, two actresses will be performing at the opening ceremony and will add glam to the function. The opening ceremony will begin from 7:30 pm on March 31 ahead of the opener and the match will begin around half an hour later just like the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 opener last month.

Home-and-Away rule

In the 16th season of the IPL home-and-away format and 10 teams will be divided in two groups for 74 total league matches (two qualifiers, one eliminator and one final).

Teams will play 7 home games and 7 away games respectively in the league stage. Each team will face the other four teams in the same group twice. They will also face off against the five other teams once each.

The inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) also witnessed a glamourous opening ceremony with Bollywood stars Kriti Sanon, Kiara Advani and Punjabi pop sensation AP Dhillon performing at the event. The BCCI are hoping that several Bollywood A-list stars will be attending the IPL 2023 opening ceremony.
