New Delhi: The most successful side in the Indian premier League (IPL) Mumbai Indians (MI), they have won the title for the record five times. However, in last year edition of the league, the champion team finished at the bottom of the table.

Mumbai Indians’ last year performance

Rohit Sharma and Co managed to win just 4 matches out of 14 played. They were placed below the second most successful side Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Mumbai’s spin department

In the 2022 edition, Mumbai’s major area of concern was the spin department. In the middle overs (7-15), their spinners picked up only 12 wickets, the least after Sunrisers Hyderabad. This year, they have roped in the experienced Piyush Chawla and Shams Mulani. The latter was excellent for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy.

Main core batting line-up

In their batting department their old guard will be the key, with skipper Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan all are in terrific form. This year’s Mumbai’s batting line-up well built-up.

Ishan’s factor

In the mini auction, Mumbai Indians went for Ishan Kishan shelling out 15.25 crores, making him the most expensive buy in the 2022 auction. Kishan was the only one from the core group Mumbai could re-sign. Ishan Kishan slammed 418 runs in 14 matches and scored the highest number of runs for MI last season.

Jofra Archer returns

In bowling department, they do not have a star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. But the return of Jofra Archer will be a sign of relief for the Mumbai camp. In Tymal Mills, MI will have the left-arm angle and he will most probably form a part of pace trio consisting of veteran Jaydev Unadkat who is a left-arm pacer as well.

New signing

Mumbai Indians bought the young talent in Dewald Brevis of South Africa, known as ‘Baby AB’ for the 360 degree style of playing shots he shares with the legend AB de Villiers. He finished as the highest run-getter in the 2021 U-19 World Cup (scoring 506 runs from 6 matches at 84.33) and is touted for greatness in the future.
