New Delhi: Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed Sandeep Warrier as the replacement of pacer Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The star Indian pacer will miss out entire IPL due his back injury.

On the other hand, Bumrah’s replacement Warrier, who has played for India (1 T20I in 2021), has thus far played 68 T20s and scalped 62 wickets. He was previously played 5 IPL games for two franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Warrier had made his debut for India in the shortest format in Colombo in July 2021 against Sri Lanka. He represented Kerala in domestic cricket before moving to Tamil Nadu in 2020.
Bumrah’s injury timeline
Coming back to Bumrah, he has not played in a competitive match since September last year. Bumrah had to undergo a surgery on his back in New Zealand earlier this year which has ruled him out of the entire IPL as well as World Test Championship (WTC) against Australia in June.
The 29-year-old bowler had also missed the T20 World Cup last year, his main focus now is 50-overs World Cup that takes place in October-November this year. The One Day International (ODI) World Cup will be hosted by India.
Mumbai Indians to face SRH in opening match
Mumbai Indians will start their IPL campaign against on April 2, Sunday against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. There is good news for MI as England’s speedster Jofra Archer will make his debut for the franchise. Archer was bought by MI ahead of the previous season but was forced to miss the tournament due to an elbow injury.
