New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has got a big blow ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as New Zealand medium pacer Kyle Jamieson ruled out of the entire tournament due to back injury.
Jamieson was big buy for CSK
The 28-year-old bowler was expected to return for Blackcaps’ for ongoing two-Test series against England after playing the five-day format in June 2022. However, due to the recurrence of the injury and impending surgery, Jamieson will have to wait to get in action.
Kyle Jamieson was the high-profile purchase for CSK in the mini auction. He was bought by the 4-time champions franchise for Rs 1 crore.

“Kyle has seen a back surgeon and is getting surgery later in the week. It’s been a challenging and difficult time for Kyle and a big loss for us. He has been fantastic when he has been around all of our sides when he has been part of them,” New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said.
Will miss 2nd Test against England
Jamieson will be ruled out of the 2nd Test against England, which will get underway on February 24 in Wellington. New Zealand was hammered by 267 runs in the first Test, a pink-ball affair in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.
“So we just wish him well, and we will know more in about three to four months about what that end prognosis looks like for him,” Stead added

“Surgery provides a quicker return to play and that’s the encouraging thing for him. We want to give him the best chance of recovery because we know what a star he has been for us,” Stead concluded.
