Inter Milan won 2-0 at a rainy San Siro on Thursday, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia. Marko Arnautovic and Kristjan Asllani scored in the first half to guarantee the win for the heavily rotated Inter side.
Great Start For Milan
The match saw Inter dominate proceedings, and they took the lead in the 30th minute when Udinese lost possession in midfield. Mehdi Taremi’s quick through-ball found Arnautovic, who finished calmly into the net. Earlier in the match, Arnautovic had earned a penalty for a handball by an Udinese defender, but the decision was overturned after a VAR review.
Arnautovic Reflects On The Win
After the match, Arnautovic shared his thoughts on the victory.
“Asllani and I are among those who are on the bench a lot and to have a chance is a joy, then who scores is not important, the important thing was to win and go to the quarters,” Arnautovic told reporters.
“The whole team has always given me the motivation to give everything for Inter. It hasn’t been an easy period in recent weeks, but I have a contract with Inter, I want to give everything for this team, because they all know that I love it,” he added.
Asllani Doubles Inter’s Lead
Just before halftime, Asllani doubled Inter’s lead when he scored directly from a corner kick. Play was briefly halted for six minutes due to a medical emergency in the stands, and fans applauded as the individual was taken away on a stretcher by medical staff.
Second-Half Chances & Woodwork Hit
In the second half, Inter pushed for more goals. Taremi came closest when his shot hit the woodwork. Lautaro Martinez, who came on after an hour, continues to be in a dry spell, failing to net a goal.
Udinese Struggle To Create Chances
Udinese was not very aggressive in their attack and had only one shot on target during the game. Alexis Sanchez was not impressive in his first start for the club since returning to the club during the summer.
Next Match: Inter To Host Lazio
Inter, who have won the Coppa Italia nine times, will face Lazio in the next round, with the match scheduled for February.
