New Delhi: Asian youth champion Ravina captured gold in the IBA Youth Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships 2022 held in Spain. In the final bout, Raveena put up a blistering performance to add another gold medal to India’s tally of 11 medals.

Fought against Megan Decler of the Netherlands

Raveena (63kg) was up against Megan Decler of Netherlands in her final bout. Despite not getting off to the best of start, the Indian boxer made an impressive comeback against her Dutch rival. She utilized her technical ability and speed to defeat her.

It was a tough fight in favor of the 2022 Asian youth gold medalist. Raveena won the split decision 4–3 after a review of the bout. In the other final, Keerthi (81+kg) went down fighting against 2022 European Youth Champion Cleona Elizabeth D’Arcy of Ireland. She took silver, losing 0-5.

India garners 11 medals in the tournament

India dominated the event. The 25-member contingent won a total of 11 medals, including four gold, three silver and four bronze medals. Altogether 17 Indians had qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament which was more than any other country in the 2022 edition of the tournament.

Apart from Raveena, the players won the medal

Ravina (63kg), Devika Ghorpade (52kg) won gold, Kirti (+81kg), Bhavna Sharma (48kg) won silver while Muskaan (75kg), Lashu Yadav (70kg), Kunjarani Devi Thongam (60kg) ) and Tamanna (50 kg) won bronze medals. In the men’s section, Youth Asian champion Vanshaj (63.5kg) and Vishwanath Suresh (48kg) won gold while Ashish (54kg) won silver. Around 600 boxers from 73 countries participated in this year’s championships in La Nucia.
