His knock came off 253 balls and was studded with 22 elegant boundaries. What stood out was the fluency in his strokeplay – every shot looked measured and graceful, without a hint of risk or awkwardness.

At the end of the day’s play, Jaiswal was batting alongside skipper Shubman Gill, who played a cautious knock of 20*. The pair will look to build on this strong foundation when play resumes on Day 2.
