A ticket for the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match at East Meadow has appeared on the resale market for an astounding $175,400 (Rs 1.46 crore). This ticket, for Seat 30 in Row 20 of Section 252, is listed on Stubhub, a legal resale site for sports and entertainment events. This high price does not guarantee a sale but reflects the seller’s asking price. Interestingly, tickets in adjacent rows in Section 252 are significantly cheaper, priced at $693 in Row 21 and $801 in Row 19.
Another resale site, Viagogo, also lists a ticket in the same section for the same price, likely from the same seller.
The intense demand for tickets to this high-profile match, considered by many fans the highlight of the month-long tournament held across the US and the Caribbean, has led to significant price hikes on resale markets.
As of Friday night, the official International Cricket Council (ICC) site still had a few tickets available without markups. Prices ranged from $1,500 in the Boundary Club section to $10,000 in the Diamond Club section. Intermediate options included $2,750 for the Premium Club Lounge section and $3,000 for the Cabanas section.
In contrast, tickets for the Netherlands-South Africa match at the same venue on Saturday were priced between $120 for Premium and $700 for Premium Club sections on the ICC site. For the upcoming India-US match on Wednesday, ticket prices were listed at $300 for Premium, $1,000 for Premium Club Lounge, $1,350 for Cabanas, and $7,500 for the Diamond Club.
The ICC initially sold tickets through a “public ballot,” where fans applied and were randomly selected to purchase tickets.
