Tom Banton has been added as a cover for the third ODI between India and England, which is scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad. Jacob Bethel, featured in the first ODI in Nagpur, sustained a left hamstring injury. Further assessment of the injury will be at Ahmedabad when the team arrives on Monday.

Benton has shown an outstanding form in T20 franchise cricket. He is also currently the leading run scorer in the UAE ELT 20 where he smashed 493 runs from 11 innings at an average of 54.77. His campaign in UAE consisted of 2 centuries as well. Tom Benton made his ODI debut on February 4, 2020 against South Africa at Cape Town where he scored 18 runs in 23 balls. His last ODI match was also in 2020 against Ireland at Southampton where he scored 58 runs in 51 balls with an impressive strike rate of 113.72.

England has lost the first ODI against India in Napur and te second ODI is being played at the Barabati stadium in Cuttack. India currently leads the series by a lead of 1-0. The 3rd ODI will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahemadabad on 12 February. Virat Kohli made a return in the 2nd ODI replacing young Yashasvi Jaiswal. It would be interesting to see if included, how Banton would contribute to the English team.
