Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya saved India’s Innings from collapse by scoring 53 runs each. India was in a crisis when it lost 4 of its top order batters in a mere 57 runs. Shivam Dube was seen uncomfortable with the short balls when once he hit himself with the ball on the shoulder by Jofra Archer and then again when he missed the pull and was struck flush on the helmet. Due to all these blows to Shivam Dube he was replaced by Harshit Rana as a concussion substitute in the second innings.

What is a concussion substitute?
If a player gets a confirmed or possible concussion while actively playing on the field, they can be replaced by a substitute player, but only after the team doctor has formally evaluated and diagnosed the injury.
Was Harshit Rana’s inclusion cheating?
Although Shivam Dube was a batter and India was supposed to bowl in the second innings so inclusion of any bowler was a smart move by skipper Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir. Also any change in the team is always after the approval of the match officials. Some spectators are calling this unfair but legally Harshit Rana’s inclusion was legitimate. India lacked a full time pacer apart from Arshdeep Singh. Hardik Pandya usually works in the team as the third bowler but due to the unavailability of any full time bowler, Hardik Pandya had to play as the second bowler.

Harshit Rana delivered an impressive bowling performance last night, making a significant impact with figures of 3/33 in his four-over spell. Despite not bowling any maiden overs, Rana maintained a decent economy rate of 8.25 runs per over while picking up three crucial wickets of Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell and Jamie Overton.
