Prasidh to Root, no run, 138kph, back of a length delivery just outside off, defended half-forward
England has won the toss again and they have elected to bowl first. India made 3 changes, of which the most surprising was Jasprit Bumrah. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Akash Deep have been provided with the opportunity to play today. India faced a crushing defeat in the first Test match at Leeds, which forced the Indian team selectors and officials to make these key changes. Sai Sudarshan, Shardul Thakur, and Jasprit Bumrah have been dropped for the second Test match, which is currently going on at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Jadeja to Brook, no ball, 1 run, square of the wicket
Akash Deep to Brook, no run, beaten! 136kph, back of a length delivery in the channel outside off, Brook waits in the crease looking to dab it fine but it zips through past the outside edge. Might've nipped away just a touch but a loose shot in any case
Akash Deep to Root, leg byes, FOUR, Pant dives across to his left but fails to gather it cleanly. Given as leg-byes anyway. Back of a length on middle and leg, Root shuffles across, to clip it away but is hit on the thigh pad
Siraj to Brook, FOUR, Brook on the charge. He steps out and doesn't get hold of the length delivery, but drives it wide of mid-off and beats the chasing and diving Jaiswal
Siraj to Crawley, out Caught by Karun Nair!! A third goes. It's short of length outside off, shapes away a tad, Crawley punches away from the body, the thick outside-edge flies and Karun makes no mistake at 1st slip as he reverse-cups near his face. Siraj does his trademark celebration pointing towards him and he is elated. A loose shot it must be said and Crawley was not in control. England in big trouble here.
Akash Deep to Crawley, FOUR, in the air and past the diving short mid-wicket.
Akash Deep to Pope, out Caught by Rahul!! Golden duck. What is happening out there? Pope falls for a blob. Full and angled in on off, Pope gets forward to flick and the thick leading-edge flies to KL at 2nd slip. He takes it on the 2nd attempt after juggling it. The angle in meant Pope had to play but he made the mistake of closing the face and trying to play through mid-wicket. Also the ball moved away off the seam after pitching. England in early trouble here and Akash Deep is pumped. He is leaping and punching the air. Now he is on a hat-trick.
Akash Deep to Duckett, out Caught by Gill!! Gill's day gets better. Takes a fine catch to his left at 3rd slip. Akash Deep provides the early breakthrough. It's a length delivery outside off, Duckett punches and the thick outside-edge flies nicely to Gill's left who takes it two-handed. A rare failure for Duckett who falls for a duck. Gill had just come on to the field and he shows clean hands to take it effortlessly. The round the wicket angle to Duckett working for Akash Deep. Duckett c Gill b Akash Deep 0(5)
Siraj to Crawley, no run, Jadeja at backward point loses his pants and that is an embarrassing moment. The crowd get into it. Full outside off, shapes away, Crawley gets forward to defend and it runs to the left of Jadeja, he gets across and cuts it off,but not before losing his pants
Bashir to Akash Deep, out Caught by Duckett!! One brings two. Akash Deep tries to smoke Bashir for a maximum. It was a juicy toss up outside off and was there for the taking. Akash Deep kneels down and slogs it off the toe end of the bat. Duckett, lurking in at wide long-on, ambles across and completes the catch with ease.
Tongue to Gill, out Caught by Pope!! Oh dear! A tired shot from Shubman Gill and he isn't happy with himself. Drahs himself off the field, but to a great round of applause from all corners of the ground. Akash Deep is the first one to walk up to him for a handshake. A few other English players follow suit. It was once again short from Tongue, Gill went for the pull but ended up dragging it off the inside half straight to Pope at square leg. It's an innings that he will remember for a long, long time. Came in at 95/2 in the first session yesterday and he's put up a clinic here in Edgbaston. Respected the conditions early on, took calculated risks, put his head down and built partnerships, and then unleashed his eye-catching strokeplay with incredible composure. This is a knock for the ages from the Indian skipper.
Root to Gill, FOUR, floaty and tossed up full outside off, Gill gets forward and drives through cover, into the gap and four more
Root to Washington Sundar, out Bowled!! Roooooooooooottttttttttt is the chant from the crowd as he bowls Washington Sundar. Sundar is perplexed as he plays down the wrong line. Pushed through quicker on a good length, with the angle Root bowled that, Sundar was expecting it to slide on to the bat, but it just straightened and maybe even turned a hint
Root to Washington Sundar, FOUR, bad delivery and Washington Sundar puts it away. Slower and well down leg, Washington Sundar goes on the back foot and pulls, beats backward square-leg to his right, runs away
Root to Washington Sundar, no run, slower and tossed up full outside off, Washington Sundar gets forward to drive it hard but picks out cover
Brydon Carse to Gill, byes, FOUR, England being run ragged here. It's a slower-ball down leg, bounces in front of Jamie Smith and he can't stop it. Gill let that go and it's four byes
Bashir to Gill, FOUR, and so much width outside off, good length and well outside off, Gill opens the face of the bat and glides it down to third man, races away. There's no-one out there and it runs away for consecutive fours
Tongue to Gill, 1 run, maiden 200 for Gill. Only the third Indian to do it in England. Short down leg, Gill helps the pull to fine-leg.
Tongue to Washington Sundar, no run, short of length outside the leg-stump, Washington Sundar flicks and it's a half-stop by short-leg, they don't risk a single
Tongue to Washington Sundar, no run, again Washington Sundar getting slightly squared up, short of length and angled into leg-stump, Sundar plonks the bat in front of the pad, hits the thick outer half of the bat and rolls to the right of Tongue
Tongue to Washington Sundar, no run, another cracking bouncer and Washington somehow manages to evade after getting into a tangle!
Tongue to Jadeja, out Caught by Jamie Smith!! Rip-roaring bumper from Tongue and the superb partnership is finally broken! Absolute brute of a delivery. Round the wicket, dug in short and beats Jadeja for pace and bounce as he looks to fend it off. He's jumping in the crease but it still gets big on him and balloons off the glove to the keeper. It needed something special to lift England and Tongue has produced it.
Bashir to Gill, SIX, absolutely nails the sweep shot into the crowd and Gill is all smiles as the two batters get together! 200-run stand also comes up with that shot. Bashir switches to round the wicket, tosses it up around middle, Gill gets low and whacks it behind square
Tongue to Jadeja, FOUR, lovely on-drive past the non-striker! It's fuller than a good length on off, not quite a half-volley, and Jadeja meets it with the full face before punching it crisply - his weight going into the shot. Silly mid-on is a mere spectator
Bashir to Gill, FOUR, to third man
Second 150-plus score by an India captain in England after Mohammad Azharuddin’s 179 at Old Trafford in 1990.
Brydon Carse to Gill, FOUR, to deep backward point
Brydon Carse to Jadeja, FOUR, to deep square leg
Brydon Carse to Gill, FOUR, poor from Carse
Brydon Carse to Gill, FOUR, to long-on
Woakes to Gill, FOUR, shot of the day so far and it is the Indian skipper.
Stokes to Jadeja, FOUR, 136ks short and well wide of off stump
Stokes to Jadeja, FOUR, to deep extra cover
Woakes to Jadeja, 1 run, 131ks on the pads and it is an easy clip away to deep square for Ravindra Jadeja who brings up his 23rd fifty in Test cricket.
Woakes to Gill, no ball, FOUR, edged and through!
Root to Gill, FOUR, hundred for Gill. He shrieks in delight. Two Tests | Two tons in this series. He loves the moment as he roars and then waves the helmet in the air, mouths a loud come on, takes a bow and then kisses his bat. This is full outside the leg-stump, there's a backward square-leg but this is a hard sweep and well wide of that man. Root was given the over to get England to the 2nd new-ball and that has allowed Gill to get to his 100. His 7th in Tests, he has started off his captaincy career in style
Bashir to Jadeja, FOUR, slower and wider outside off, tossed up and Jadeja accepts the invite, he gets forward and lofts over cover, into the gap for four
Tongue to Jadeja, FOUR, beautiful back foot punch. A short of length delivery outside off, Jadeja goes on the back foot and punches it through vacant cover, races away
Stokes to Gill, byes, 1 run, short but slower and down leg, bounces awkwardly in front of Jamie Smith and he can't collect it down leg. They take a bye
Stokes to Jadeja, 1 run, good length outside off, Jadeja taps to the left of gully and they take an easy single
Stokes to Jadeja, FOUR, diving effort from Bashir but in vain! Back of a length outside off, Jadeja hangs back, opens the face slightly and punches it away behind backward point. Bashir is at deep backward point and he's beaten to his right
Stokes to Gill, no ball, 1 run, good length ball just outside off, Gill gets forward to defend but it goes off the outside half to third man. Straightened a touch against the angle
Woakes to Nitish Reddy, out Bowled!! The off stump is knocked back as Reddy offers no shot! It came back in a long way from Woakes. Good length ball that pitches outside off, Reddy doesn't think there's much of a threat to his stumps but the movement takes him by surprise and there's nothing he can do having raised his arms to leave. Two wickets in quick succession for England and the picture of the day looks very different now.
Bashir to Pant, out Caught by Crawley!! Teasing flight at 74kph from Bashir, Pant can't resist, goes for the big shot and he holes out in the deep. Gill looks away in disappointment as India lose their fourth. The partnership seemed to have everything in control and this has come against the run of play.
Woakes to Gill, 1 run, back of a length delivery wide of off, Gill cuts, it goes in the air but it's wide of the diving gully fielder
Bashir to Pant, FOUR, the falling pull shot from Pant! It's not all that short but he collapses his back knee, falls to the floor and pulls it over short fine
Bashir to Gill, FOUR, brings up his fifty in style! A hundred in his first Test as captain, and he follows it up with a fifty here.
Woakes to Gill, no run, nips back in slightly. Back of a length, cutting in around off, Gill punches from the crease to short cover
