England Test captain Ben Stokes has made a major lifestyle change by giving up alcohol in a bid to maintain peak fitness. With a crucial five-match Test series against India, followed by the Ashes, Stokes is determined to be in top form. The series is set to begin on June 20.
Stokes is currently recovering from a hamstring injury and has been working hard to regain full fitness. The injury first surfaced during The Hundred tournament last year and worsened during a Test match against New Zealand. As a result, he underwent surgery in December, which forced him to miss the tours of Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Now, he’s aiming for a strong comeback against India.
According to a report by The Telegraph, Stokes decided to give up alcohol to ensure he’s fully fit and ready to lead the team. He believes that late-night partying and drinking could hinder his recovery and possibly aggravate his injury.
Alcohol-Free Since January 2
In a recent podcast appearance, Stokes revealed that he stopped drinking alcohol at the beginning of the year. “I’ve not touched alcohol since January 2,” he said, calling it a significant step towards staying physically strong and improving his overall health.
The England team is set to begin their summer cricket campaign soon. They’ll first play a one-off Test against Zimbabwe, followed by the much-anticipated five-match series against India. After that, preparations will begin for the Ashes series against Australia.
