Badminton Asia Team Championship 2024: The Indian women’s team made history on Sunday when they defeated Thailand in the summit match to win their first-ever Badminton Asia Team Championships title. The Indian team won the historic title by defeating Thailand 3-2 under the direction of star shuttler PV Sindhu.

Team Wins Under PV Sindhu’s Guidance
In the opening match, Sindhu defeated world no. 17 Katethong Supanida 21–12, 21–12 to give India an early lead. Then, after defeating Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai 21-16, 18-21, 21-16, the women’s duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand increased India’s lead.

However, Ashmita Chaliha lost in straight games, 11-21, 14-21, to Busanan Ongbanrunhphan, and the women’s team, Shruti and Priya, lost 11-21, 9-11, to Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard. The Thai shuttlers then turned the tables, winning the next two matches.
Amol Kharb, 17, once again proved her mettle in crunch time, holding onto her composure to defeat Pornpicha Choeikeewong 21-14, 21-9 in the decider to complete India’s historic victory.
Team Lifted Anmol On Their Shoulders
The team huddled together shortly after the victory to support Anmol and celebrate the incredible victory in the Setia City Convention Center.
India Had Won Two Medals Previously
India had previously won two medals, with the men’s team taking home bronze in the 2020 and 2016 competitions, respectively.
