Sunil Chhetri was left stunned and motionless in disbelief as India’s campaign came to a shocking end in the AFC Asian Cup 2027. The Blue Tigers suffered a 1-2 defeat against Singapore in the return leg at he Fatorda Stadium in Margao, Goa, on Tuesday.
Afte the 1-1 draw, India just had to take a win in order to save themselves from fading qualification hopes alive. The team showed a promising start but they failed to turn it into a winning momentum which ultimately led to their defeat. With just two points in four matches India is now at the bottom of the points table.

The match began and Lallianzuala Chhangte wrecked havoc as he made a left-foot srike and gave India an early lead. The home crowd was also pumped with excitement but the team lost its momentum with missed chances and continuous lapses in concentration.
Singapore’s Song Uiyoung struck in stoppage time before the break, leveling the score and shifting the momentum in the visitors’ favour. In the second half India was chasing the game and in the 58th minute, Song Uiyoung of Singapore was the game-changer, he gave Singapore a lead of 2-1 from which India could never recover. Brandon Fernandes even got an opportunity to strike created by Udanta Singh and Rahul Bheke but Fernandes missed it.

The defeat marks a an end to India’s qualification campaign, leaving fans and players in complete disappointment.
