IND vs SA match result: In a high-voltage Women’s World Cup 2025 clash, South Africa edged past India by three wickets in a nail-biting chase at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Despite Richa Ghosh’s stunning 94 off 77 balls, India couldn’t hold their nerve as Nadine de Klerk delivered a knockout punch with an unbeaten 84 off just 54 balls, guiding South Africa to 252/7 in 48.5 overs – chasing down India’s total of 251.

Richa’s blistering knock put India ahead
India looked in control after setting a competitive total, thanks to Richa’s calculated aggression. Her innings was filled with crisp boundaries and smart running, but she fell just six short of a deserving hundred. Her knock was the backbone of India’s total and gave them a solid platform to defend.
Protea skipper and Tryron made a crucial partnership
In reply, South Africa had a shaky start, losing Tazmin Brits early, but skipper Laura Wolvaardt (70) anchored the innings with a calm and composed half-century. Chloe Tryon’s 49 provided the push in the middle overs, but the real damage was done by de Klerk, whose power-hitting under pressure turned the game on its head.
De Klerk added finishing touch
Her five sixes and eight fours stunned the Indian bowling attack and silenced the home crowd. Even though India picked up wickets at regular intervals, they failed to contain the scoring in the death overs.

Sneh Rana and Shree Charani bowled well in patches, but the fielding lapses and lack of execution at crucial moments cost India dearly.
This defeat will sting India, especially after such a brilliant knock from Richa Ghosh. But for South Africa, it’s a massive confidence boost and a reminder of their depth and resilience.
India now need to regroup quickly ahead of their next game, while South Africa continue their strong run in the tournament.
