New Delhi: India’s 306th Test cap, young Yashasvi Jaiswal broke many records on the Day 2 of the 1st Test match against West Indies on Thursday, July 13 at the Windsor Park, Dominica. The 21-year-old Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener achieved many feet when he stepped to bat at the Roseau.

Yashasvi’s hundred on Test debut
Jaiswal joined many Indian elites, who managed to score hundred on their debut. Along with that, he also achieved many milestone under his name.
Jaiswal and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma stitched together 229 runs for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma also smashed century (103) while, Jaiswal remain unbeaten on 143 along with Virat Kohli, who is batting on 36.

- Jaiswal became the 17th player to score century on his maiden Test. He now stands alongside Lala Amarnath (118), Deepak Shodhan (110), AG Kripal Singh (100*), Abbas Ali Baig (112), Hanumant Singh (105), Gundappa Vishwanath (137), Surinder Amarnath (124), Mohammad Azharuddin (110), Pravin Amre (103), Sourav Ganguly (131), Virender Sehwag (105), Suresh Raina (120), Shikhar Dhawan (187), Rohit Sharma (177), Prithvi Shaw (134), and Shreyas Iyer (105).
- The 21-year-old became the seventh Indian to score overseas hundred on his maiden Test. He joined the likes of Abbas Ali Baig (112 vs. ENG in Manchester), Surinder Amarnath (124 vs. NZ in Auckland), Pravin Amre (103 vs. SA in Durban), Sourav Ganguly (131 vs. ENG at Lord’s), Virender Sehwag (105 vs. SA in Bloemfontein), and Suresh Raina (120 vs. SL in Colombo).
- Jaiswal also broke the 27-year-old long standing record of former Indian captain Sourabh Ganguly of scoring most runs on Test debut at an overseas venue. Ganguly scored 131 runs against England at Lord’s.
- He joined the fabulous list of Indian opener including Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, who had scored a century on their Test debut. Dhawan achieved this feat with a score of 187 against Australia in 2013, while Shaw scored 134 against the West Indies in 2018.
- Jaiswal also became the third Indian batter after Rohit Sharma and Prithvi Shaw to score a century on Test debut.
- He has set the new record of the most balls faced by an Indian on Test debut. He faced a remarkable 350 balls, surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin’s previous record of 322 balls, which he achieved against England in 1984.
- Rohit and Jaiswal also created new partnership record by breaking a 44-year-old record set by Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan. Their remarkable partnership of 229 runs for the first wicket surpassed Gavaskar and Chauhan’s previous record of 213 runs, which was the highest for India outside Asia in Test matches.
- The new opening pair of India- Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved multiple feetduring their partnership. They broke Virender Sehwag and Wasim Jaffer’s 17-year-old record of 159 runs for the first wicket, setting a new highest opening partnership for India in Tests against the West Indies. Additionally, they surpassed Sehwag and Sanjay Bangar’s 21-year-old record of 201 runs to establish a new highest opening partnership for India against the West Indies. Notably, their partnership of 229 runs also marked the first time an Indian opening pair took the first innings lead in Test matches.
