IND vs WI, Day-4 Match Report: Forced to follow on after being bowled out for 248 in response to India’s massive 518/5 declared, the West Indies found themselves facing the daunting task of survival. But what followed was one of the most spirited fightbacks seen from the Caribbean side in recent years.
Openers Shai Hope and John Campbell stitched together a remarkable 177-run stand for the third wicket – a partnership steeped in patience, grit, and some glorious strokeplay. Campbell Breaks the Drought with Maiden Test Ton
Campbell, long considered a promising but inconsistent talent, finally delivered on that promise. He reached his maiden Test hundred in style – a six over long-on off Jadeja, sealing the moment in the 58th over. His 174-ball effort included 12 boundaries and three sixes, and also marked the first ton by a West Indies opener in India in 23 years.
His dismissal for 115, however, just before lunch, gave India a much-needed breakthrough. It was Jadeja again, tempting him into a loose shot and ending a partnership that had frustrated the hosts for nearly 60 overs.

Shai Hope Ends an Eight-Year Wait
Hope, more measured than Campbell, brought up his third Test hundred – his first in the format since 2017. It was a methodical 214-ball knock that held the innings together, and his partnership with skipper Roston Chase ensured the scoreboard kept ticking.
But soon after reaching his milestone, a lapse in concentration saw him bowled by Siraj for 103. From there, the innings began to unravel.
Kuldeep, Bumrah Trigger Collapse – But Not the End
India sensed an opening and pounced. Kuldeep Yadav, who had struggled earlier, found his rhythm and began spinning webs around the lower order. Bumrah returned with a fiery spell, and together they reduced the West Indies from 271/3 to 311/9 in quick time.
Just when it seemed all over, the 10th-wicket pair of Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales dug in and delivered one of the most unexpected rearguard actions of the series.
Greaves and Seales Defy India with Grit and Guts
With nothing to lose and everything to gain, Greaves and Seales frustrated the Indian bowlers with solid defence, smart shot selection, and the occasional counterattack. Greaves brought up a fine half-century off 85 balls, while Seales supported him brilliantly.
Their 79-run stand not only took West Indies past 350 but also beyond the 390 mark – stretching the lead to 120. Bumrah finally broke the stand in the 119th over, having Seales caught in the deep by Washington Sundar for 32 off 67 balls.
India Begin Chase Cautiously After Early Setback
Chasing 121, India got off to a quick start through Jaiswal, who hit two boundaries in the opening over. But he fell soon after, miscuing a big shot off Jomel Warrican to long-on. With India at 9/1, the visitors sensed an opportunity.
However, KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan ensured there were no further hiccups. The pair showed composure and rotated the strike well, especially Sudharsan, who looked confident against the spinners. India reached the 50-run mark in the 16th over, finishing the day at 63/1 – just 58 runs shy of a series win.
What to Expect on Day 5
Barring an early collapse, India are well-placed to seal the Test and take the series. But with the pitch still offering some bite and the West Indies bowlers buoyed by their team’s spirited display, the first hour could be crucial. The hosts will be keen to avoid any drama, while the visitors will be hoping to create a few.
The match may be tilted in India’s favour, but after the fight the West Indies have shown, nothing is guaranteed.
