Delhi – Shubman Gill’s outstanding century and Ravindra Jadeja’s sharp spin bowling helped India take full control on Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Gill’s Record Ton Powers India Past 500
India didn’t have the best start to the day. Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out early after a miscommunication with Gill while attempting a risky single. The young opener looked visibly upset as Gill didn’t leave his crease at the non-striker’s end.
Despite the early blow, Gill and Nitish Reddy steadied the innings with a solid 91-run stand. Gill went on to score a magnificent century – his 10th in Test cricket – continuing his excellent form. Reddy, on the other hand, looked good for a half-century but fell for 43 to Jomel Warrican.
Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel added quick runs with a fluent 44 off 79 balls, which included five stylish boundaries. India eventually declared their first innings at a massive 518/5.

Jadeja Spins Web Around West Indies
In response, West Indies had a steady start, managing 21 runs in the first seven overs, unlike the collapse they faced in Ahmedabad. However, skipper Gill brought Jadeja into the attack early, and the decision paid off immediately. The left-arm spinner broke through by dismissing opener John Campbell.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze showed some resistance, but Jadeja struck again, removing Chanderpaul for 34. Athanaze fought hard for his 41 but couldn’t convert it into a big score. Roston Chase was dismissed for a duck, becoming Jadeja’s third victim of the day.
With the West Indies struggling at 114/4, it looked like another collapse was on the cards. But Shai Hope and wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach batted sensibly to avoid further damage. They took the visitors to 140/4 at stumps.
India are firmly in control heading into Day 3 and will look to press for a win to wrap up the series.
