IND vs WI 1st Test, Day 2: Jadeja, Rahul, Jurel lead India’s charge in Ahmedabad masterclass

Centuries from KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja put India in a commanding position on Day 2 vs West Indies.

IND vs WI 1st Test, Day 2: At the close of Day 2 in Ahmedabad, the story wasn’t just about the scoreboard – it was about a resurgent KL Rahul, a blossoming Dhruv Jurel, and the ever-evolving Ravindra Jadeja. India ended the day at a commanding 448/5, with a lead of 286 runs, asserting dominance over a weary West Indies side that struggled to find answers.

After starting the day at 121/2, India lost Shubman Gill early, just after he reached a tidy half-century. But what followed was a batting clinic – not flashy or hurried, but assured and clinical, the kind that wins Test matches.

KL Rahul’s Patience Pays Off

For KL Rahul, this century meant more than just numbers on a scoreboard. It was his first Test ton at home in nearly nine years, and only his second overall in India. Coming in after the early dismissals of Jaiswal and Sudharsan on Day 1, Rahul played the perfect anchor — absorbing pressure and keeping the innings together. His hundred, brought up before lunch, was a statement of class and timing — both on the pitch and in his career.

While he departed soon after reaching triple digits, his knock set the tone for the innings and reminded everyone why he remains an integral part of India’s red-ball setup.

Dhruv Jurel: Making Every Chance Count

In just his early days as a Test cricketer, 24-year-old Dhruv Jurel is already making a strong impression. With Rishabh Pant gradually making his comeback, Jurel knew every opportunity was precious — and he made this one count in gold.

He brought up his maiden Test century in style, combining poise with precision. Whether it was handling the short ball or rotating the strike, Jurel batted like someone with twice his experience. His 206-run partnership with Jadeja for the fifth wicket effectively batted the West Indies out of the game.

Jadeja’s Golden Run Gets Better

If the bat could speak, Ravindra Jadeja’s would probably say, “Don’t call me an all-rounder. I’m a specialist now.” The veteran southpaw brought up yet another Test hundred – his second in 2025 and part of a stunning run of seven 50+ scores in his last nine innings.

Jadeja’s innings wasn’t just about runs. It was about stature. At 36, he is batting better than ever and has now even surpassed MS Dhoni in the list of most sixes in Test cricket for India, with 79 maximums to his name. Only Virender Sehwag (91) sits ahead of him.

With two full days to go and a West Indies attack that already looks out of steam, India are firmly in the driver’s seat. Whether they declare sometime on Day 3 or bat deep into the day, the pressure is now entirely on the visitors.

The return of form for KL Rahul, the rise of Dhruv Jurel, and the relentless consistency of Jadeja are not just good signs for this Test – they speak volumes about India’s red-ball depth and resilience.
