IND vs USA: Despite the United States putting up a stellar performance against India in the T20 World Cup 2024 group-stage match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, they were set back by a 5-run penalty. This occurred because the USA team was not prepared to bowl the next over within 60 seconds of completing the previous one.
USA have been fined 5 penalty runs.

According to a new ICC rule, “If the bowling team is not ready to bowl the next over within 60 seconds of the previous over being completed, a 5-run penalty will be imposed the third time it happens in an innings,” stated the ICC.
The umpires had warned USA skipper Aaron Jones twice for violating the stop-clock rule. However, after the third offense, the umpire imposed the five-run penalty. Earlier, the ICC announced that this rule would be implemented in the T20 World Cup and subsequently in all T20I formats. It has since become a permanent mandate in the white-ball format, including ODI cricket.

These five penalty runs eased the pressure for the Men in Blue, as Suryakumar Yadav scored a crucial fifty to help India secure their third consecutive win in the T20 World Cup 2024. The game also featured a standout performance by Arshdeep Singh, who achieved his career-best figures of 4/9. Singh dismantled the American batting lineup, taking two wickets in the first over alone.
With this victory, India has secured their qualification for the Super-8s after winning three consecutive games. Meanwhile, the USA will aim for a decisive win over Ireland, hoping to secure their spot in the next stage of the tournament.
