The winner of today’s match will secure their spot in the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024 this year. Both India and the USA are unbeaten going into the game, having won both their matches so far.
IND Restrict USA At A Paltry 110/8
Put to bat first, the USA missed the services of skipper Monank Patel who was ruled out due to a niggle. Aaron Jones replaced him as the skipper.
Opener Shayan Jahangir gave the hosts a bad start as he was sent back to the pavilion on a golden duck courtesy of a brilliant first delivery by Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep then went on to take another to end Andries Gous’ innings on just 2 runs in the last ball of the 1st over.
Skipper Aaron Jones tried to put some runs on the scoreboard but departed on 11 runs on the day as well after being dismissed by Hardik Pandya. With USA struggling at 25/3 at 7.2 overs, it was opener Steven Taylor and Nitish Kumar who started to get some runs on the scoreboard.
However, Nitish Kumar had to be content with a gritty 27 as wickets saw USA fail to continue putting runs quickly on the board.
Corey Anderson came in and hit a few good cricketing shots to propel the USA to the best possible score on the day. His 12-ball 14 helped USA post 110/8 in their 20 overs which can be judged as an above-average total for the hosts.
It was Arshdeep Singh who starred for Team India with the ball, making home 4 wickets on the day and giving away just 9 runs in his 4 overs. Arshdeep Singh’s mind-blowing figures of 4/9 are now India’s best figures in T20 World Cup history. Hardik Pandya also ended up taking 2 wickets, continuing his consistent display in the tournament.
