India Restricted USA To 110/8
The USA, batting first, faced a setback as skipper Monank Patel was sidelined due to a minor injury, with Aaron Jones stepping in as captain.
Opener Shayan Jahangir had a disastrous start, getting out for a golden duck on Arshdeep Singh’s first ball. Arshdeep also dismissed Andries Gous for just 2 runs on the last ball of the first over.
Captain Aaron Jones attempted to steady the innings but was dismissed for 11 runs by Hardik Pandya. With the USA at a precarious 25/3 after 7.2 overs, openers Steven Taylor and Nitish Kumar began to add runs to the scoreboard.
Nitish Kumar managed a gritty 27, but the USA struggled to accelerate their scoring.
Corey Anderson then provided some late impetus with 14 off 12 balls, helping the USA reach a total of 110/8 in their 20 overs, which was considered a decent score for the hosts.
Team India Fight Hard For 3rd Win vs USA
Chasing a modest 111, India openers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma struggled to give the side a confident start as Virat Kohli continued his dismal form in the tournament, being dismissed by Indian-born Netravalkar on a golden duck. For Netravalkar, it was the stuff of his dreams as he got the wicket of one of the best batters in world cricket.
He then went on to take another shocker to his name as Rohit Sharma was also sent back to the pavilion on just 3 runs courtesy of Netravalkar’s delivery in the 3rd over.
With both openers gone, India knew the ride was not going to be an easy one down from there. Rishabh Pant, who starred with a fifty against Pakistan, also failed to make a mark and got out at just 18 runs on the day.
It was the gritty partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube that got Team India some sort of momentum into the chase. SKY’s all-important fifty was supported by Shivam Dube’s 31* as Team India got themselves a 3rd win and qualified for the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024.
