IND vs SA: India is scheduled to face South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final on Saturday, June 29. However, rain is predicted to affect the match in Barbados, similar to the semi-final against England in Guyana. The International Cricket Council had allocated an additional 250 minutes for the semi-final due to the lack of a reserve day. What will happen if rain disrupts the final on June 29 at Kensington Oval, Barbados?
The match is scheduled to start at 10:30 AM local time, but rain is likely to significantly reduce playing time. According to ICC guidelines, the allotted additional time remains consistent with the semi-final of the tournament. This means that even with a delay of 4 hours and 10 minutes from the scheduled start time, a full game can still take place. In Indian Standard Time, this translates to a full 20 overs per side game potentially starting at 12:10 AM.

According to ICC rules, the organizers’ objective will be to conclude the final on Saturday itself, even if it cannot be a full 20-over game.
According to ICC guidelines, if play is interrupted on the scheduled day, umpires will utilize available extra time and, if needed, reduce the number of overs to aim for a result on that day. Their decisions regarding ground conditions, weather, and light are aimed at maximizing play on the scheduled day to achieve a result, treating the situation as if no Reserve Day were available.
For a result to be possible, both teams must complete a minimum of 10 overs each. If rain prevents any play at all, then the match will be rescheduled to Sunday, 30 June.
According to ICC guidelines, each team must have the opportunity to bat for a minimum of ten (10) overs for a result to be possible. If play has not resumed by the cutoff time necessary to bowl the minimum number of overs for a result on the scheduled day, play will be abandoned for that day, and the Reserve Day will be utilized either to complete or replay the match.

EXTENSION OF MATCH ON SATURDAY IN IND vs SA
If the final between India and South Africa is interrupted by rain and cannot be completed on the scheduled day, the ICC has the option to extend the match to the following day. If the interruption occurs before the first ball of the second innings is bowled, a full 20-over game can still take place on the Reserve Day.
However, if at least one over of the second innings has been bowled before the match is interrupted, then the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) rules will come into effect to determine the revised target.
According to ICC rules, if the Reserve Day is used to continue an incomplete match, play will resume under the assumption that the last ball was bowled on the scheduled day. The match officially starts with the coin toss and team exchange. If the toss occurs on the scheduled day and no play happens thereafter, the result of the toss and the designated teams will carry over to the Reserve Day.
Example 1: If a match begins with 20 overs per side and is interrupted at 9 overs, reducing it to 17 overs per side before rain halts play again without resuming under the revised overs, the match will continue on the Reserve Day at the original 20 overs per side, potentially adjusting overs if needed.
Example 2: Similarly, if a match starts with 20 overs per side, is interrupted at 9 overs, and reduced to 17 overs per side, then play resumes but is interrupted again after an over, the match continues on the Reserve Day at 17 overs per side, adjusting further if necessary.
CONCLUSION
Conclusion: The ICC guidelines prioritize completing the final on Saturday, even if weather conditions necessitate using DLS rules for a rain-affected match. However, there’s a possibility the match could be rescheduled to Sunday, 30 June if significant rain delays occur.
