Indian star batter Virat Kohli returned home on December 22 ahead of Team India’s 1st Test match against South Africa on December 26 due to a family emergency.
Kohli had been rested for the white ball leg of the series in South Africa and had travelled for the Test series.
Kohli missed the Intra-squad match in the camp after he was granted permission from the management.
With no further details regarding Kohli’s return, the 37-year-old will be back in time for the Boxing Day Test on January 3.
Team India suffered another blow as Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was expected to return to the fray in Test match as well has failed to recover from his finger injury in time and will sit out the opening Test as well.
Gaikwad had suffered the finger injury during India’s 2nd ODI against South Africa and missed out on the 3rd ODI as well.
“(He) hasn’t fully recovered from the blow he sustained to his ring finger while fielding in the second ODI. He remains under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.” the BCCI statement said
