The team for the upcoming 3-match One Day series between India and South Africa (South Africa Tour of India ODI series 2025) has been announced. The captaincy of the Indian team will rest with KL Rahul, while Shubman Gill has taken leave from the playing XI. The reason for his unavailability is the sprain he suffered in his neck while playing against South Africa earlier, due to which he had to withdraw from the format. The injury has affected the star player’s chances of participating in the upcoming One Day series as well.
KL Rahul to Lead the Team
KL Rahul will be heading the team after a long duration. Along with Rahul, the team will include other cricketing heavyweights such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who also played in the India vs Australia 3-match One Day series. Both players will now be seen in action on Indian soil as well.
Gaikwad Returns to the Team
Ruturaj Gaikwad had last played for India in December 20224. He will now mark his return to the team after a gap of 23 months. In the past, Gaikwad showcased a tremendous innings for the India A team, where he scored a century and a half-century in the match. His return to the squad is a recognition of his consistent scoring ability.
