Following Team India’s 5-wicket defeat against South Africa in the 2nd T20I on December 12, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar backed the team’s decision to not include number one ranked T20I bowler Ravi Bishnoi for the second game.
With many pundits expressing their disappointment after Bishnoi’s absence, Gavaskar had other opinions as the 74-year-old feels the spinner still has a long way to go.
“Ravi Bishnoi… still finding his feet at the international level. Yes, he is the No. 1 T20 bowler in the world but again, if you get stuck into him, sometimes you tend to see him bowl faster and quicker. The faster you bowl on a good pitch, it gets that much easier for the batters because the pace is exactly what they are looking for” Gavaskar said while speaking to Star Sports.
Ahead of the game Sunil Gavaskar had voiced his opinion on who could be well suited for the tie and backed Ravindra Jadeja instead of Bishnoi to play in 2nd T20I. Mukesh Kumar led the Indian bowling lineup with 2 wickets on the night couldn’t restrict the home side to take the victory.
South Africa take a 1-0 lead
Kuldeep Yadav failed to impress against The Proteas as they chased down 152 (DLS) within 13.5 overs in the 2nd T20I. South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks and skipper Aiden Markram made sure that India don’t get off to a winning start in 3-match series. Rinku Singh’s incredible knock of 68* went in vain as the Proteas look to seal the series with another win in the 3rd T20I in Johannesburg.
