Following the initial match between India and South Africa, the Indian cricket team faced a significant setback in the World Championship points table. Sliding from first place to fifth was just the beginning. However, another blow hit hard as the ICC took stern action, deducting two crucial points from India’s tally. This deduction catapulted India further down the table, now positioned at sixth place. Additionally, the ICC imposed a 10 percent fine on all Indian players due to the slow over rate, leading to substantial losses for the team.

Team India faced penalties under Article 2.22 of the Code of Conduct due to their delayed over-rate during the recent match. According to this provision, if a team bowls late, players incur a fine of 5 percent of their match fees and one point deduction. However, India’s delay of two overs led to a more severe consequence: a 10 percent fine on players’ match fees and a deduction of 2 points.
Impact on Standings:
Following the Centurion Test, India originally possessed 16 points with a points percentage of 44.44. However, the ICC’s intervention resulted in a deduction of 2 points, reducing India’s points tally to 14 and their points percentage to 38.89. Consequently, India’s ranking fell below Australia’s. Previously at sixth position, Australia now occupies fifth place while India slipped to sixth in the ICC standings due to these disciplinary actions.
