IND vs SA 2nd Test Match Report: The second Test between India and South Africa in Guwahati has wrapped up, and it couldn’t have gone worse for the home side. From start to finish, South Africa dominated every session, leaving India searching for answers after a heavy defeat.
Chasing a massive target of 549 runs, India needed nothing short of a miracle to stay alive in the match. Fans were hopeful that the team would at least survive the final day and drag the game to a draw. But that didn’t happen. India’s batting crumbled once again, and the team was bowled out in just 63.5 overs, handing South Africa a thumping 408-run victory.

With this win, the Proteas completed a clean sweep, taking the series 2-0 and asserting their supremacy throughout the tour. India, on the other hand, will be disappointed with both their batting and their inability to stay competitive in conditions that generally suit them.
It’s a result that raises a lot of questions about the batting order, shot selection, and the overall approach in high-pressure chases. South Africa, meanwhile, walk away with confidence, having thoroughly outplayed India in all departments.
South Africa whitewashed India after 25 years
For the first time in 25 years, the Proteas have beaten India in their own backyard, and the manner in which they did it will sting for a long time.
To understand how rare this is, you have to go back more than four decades. The last time India lost back-to-back home Test series across consecutive years was in 1983 (vs West Indies) and 1984/85 (vs England). Now, after defeats to New Zealand last year and South Africa this time, India find themselves in an unfamiliar and worrying position.
South Africa’s recent record in Asia also shows this wasn’t a fluke. They’ve quietly built a strong away Test unit:
- 2-0 vs Bangladesh (2024)
- 1-1 vs Pakistan (2025)
- 2-0 vs India (2025)
Their domination in India has exposed cracks in the hosts’ batting. For just the third time in history, India played a home Test series without a single century and the numbers tell an even harsher truth, Indian batters averaged just 15.23 in this series, their second-worst ever in any Test series. Only the 2002/03 New Zealand tour (average 12.42) ranks lower.
The 408-run loss in Guwahati now stands as India’s biggest defeat by runs in Test cricket:
- 408 runs vs SA, Guwahati, 2025
- 342 vs Australia, Nagpur, 2004
- 341 vs Pakistan, Karachi, 2006
- 337 vs Australia, Melbourne, 2007
- 333 vs Australia, Pune, 2017
For South Africa, this is their second-biggest win by runs in Test history, only behind their 492-run demolition of Australia in 2018. It’s also only their second-ever Test series win in India, the last coming way back in 2000 under Hansie Cronje.
Perhaps the most alarming stat for Indian cricket, India had lost only two home Test series between 2000 and 2024. Now they’ve lost two in two years.
This result is more than just a bad series – it’s a wake-up call. India’s proud home dominance, once considered unbreakable, is suddenly showing cracks. And South Africa, with discipline, depth, and relentless pressure, have exposed every one of them.
