Ind vs Nz, 1st Test Day 2: The play ended on day two, and India yet hasn’t been allowed to catch up with New Zealand with a lead of 134 runs. They managed to reach 180/3 at stumps. It was just after India’s historic collapse that the visitors came out with an aggressive batting display headed by the brilliant 91 by Devon Conway. The match, which has been held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, has bifurcated in favor of New Zealand.

India’s Historic Collapse

India batted very poorly and bowled out for only 46 runs – their lowest Test score at home. The major batsmen- the likes of Sarfaraz Khan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja failed to get a good score, which further went on to make their batting unhappy. New Zealand bowlers, led by Matt Henry, were ruthless while Matt Henry took 100th Test wickets with his astonishing figures of 5-15. So was William O’Rourke who was on his debut picked 4-22.

Conway’s Aggressive Knock

New Zealand largely rode on the aggressive innings of Devon Conway. Conway, along with captain Tom Latham, provided a solid opening partnership as both scored freely and displayed good shot selection against India’s bowlers. Conway came up with a range of sweeps and drives to reach his tenth Test fifty in only 54 deliveries. Conway tackled the premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who went for 31 in six overs.

NZ’s Bowling Strength

The bowlers of NZ played a very disciplined game in recognizing the good conditions and making proper use of them. Matt Henry started it all by getting Ashwin to edge it on his very first ball and more or less undid the Indian batting lineup pretty soon after that. The sharp fielding in concert with the bowling has left India in an all- sorts-of-perilous situation.

What’s Next?

The weather has brightened up, so both teams are geared up for Day 3, which begins at 09:15. For India, quick wickets would be the key to curbing New Zealand’s first-innings advantage, while for the visitors, it is building on from here and taking a dominant position in the Test match.

Brief scores: India 46 (Matt Henry 5-15, William ORourke 4-22) New Zealand 180/3 (Devon Conway 91) lead by 134 runs.
