IND vs ENG T20I: England has announced their playing XI for the T20I series opener against India, set to take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday. As expected, Jos Buttler will lead the team but will not take up wicketkeeping duties. Instead, he has handed over the role to Phil Salt, following their previous T20I series against the West Indies. Salt, who has experience playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, is familiar with Eden Gardens and will aim to capitalize on his local knowledge.
Ben Duckett Returns
Ben Duckett, a regular in the Test squad, is set to play his first T20I in India. Known for his aggressive batting at the top order, Duckett could be a key player for a strong start. Buttler, along with Salt, Liam Livingstone, Mark Wood, Jofra Archer, and Adil Rashid, brings plenty of experience in Indian conditions from their IPL stints, which they will rely on throughout the series.
Jacob Bethell Set To Play In Eden Gardens
21-year-old all-rounder Jacob Bethell will also play his first match in India. Recently picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL auction, Bethell’s performance will be closely monitored by the franchise.
Mark Wood Also Marks His Return
Mark Wood, returning to the squad after his last international appearance in August 2024, will hope injuries don’t hinder his preparations for the Champions Trophy. Jofra Archer, eager to rediscover his form after injury struggles, will also look to make a strong impact, much like his performances in the 2019 ODI World Cup and with Rajasthan Royals.
The England bowling attack, with seven bowling options in total, will rely on Adil Rashid for crucial breakthroughs in the middle overs. The squad features three spinners and four pacers, offering a well-balanced bowling lineup for the series.
