Bangladesh were bowled out for 234 chasing a daunting target of 515 as India romped to an impressive 280-run victory in the first Test here on Sunday. Ravichandran Ashwin was the star among India’s bowlers taking 6 wickets for 88 runs.

It was Gambhir’s first Test under his head coach tenure. He took to social media to celebrate this achievement by writing on it, “A fantastic start! Well done, boys!!”.

India’s captain Rohit Sharma felt that given the varied conditions they would be facing in the lead-up to the World Test Championship, the side needs to get around a set of strong bowling options and build its team around them.

The Indian’s spellbinding all-round display saw them comprehensively emerge as the winners in that five-session match. Support for Ashwin was provided by elegant hundreds from Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill.

“We want to build our team around strong bowling options, we have to be ready to face whatever the conditions offer,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.

“No matter what the conditions are, whether we play in India, whether we play outside, we want to build the team around that.

India’s Strong Hold Over Bowling

“In the last few years, wherever we have played, we have managed to have that in the armoury, whether it is seam bowling options or spin bowling options,” the skipper added.

India set a massive target of 515 runs but the visitors were bowled out for 234 in the second innings. It was Ravichandran Ashwin’s exceptional performance that helped India secure a dominating win. He bagged 6 wickets and this also marked his 37th five-wicket haul.

“It was a great result looking at what lies ahead for us. We are playing after a long time, but you are never out of cricket. We came here a week before, we had a good lead up to the Test match and we got the result that we wanted,” Rohit said.
