Key figure of Bangladesh cricket Khaled Mahmud Sujon has resigned as BCB Director on Wednesday, September 11. Sujon was a chairman of the Game Development Committee in the previous tenure and served as a vice-president of the Cricket Operations Committee. His resignation has come at a time when Bangladesh is experiencing its most significant political developments that are beginning to affect the cricket world.
Sujon’s resignation comes amidst the higher tide of resignations faced by the BCB in recent times, after former Directors Jalal Yunus and Naimur Rahman Durjoy also resigned. The trend is part of a tide of change after the dramatic, massive political shift that has seen recent developments such as the departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina out of the country amidst rising civilian unrest.
The Daily Star have reported that Sujon sent his resignation email to the BCB president. However, the news was confirmed by a BCB official, requesting his anonymity. Faruque Ahmed, newly appointed BCB president as successor to Nazmul Hasan Papon, has called for an overhaul of the system. Ahmed also slammed former Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurasingha. It could mean something big is in the offing in the BCB.
“I resigned as a selector in the past because I opposed the system. Now, I aim to create a system that can run the board smoothly. I am not sure about the details of the contract with Chandika Hathurusingha. I am still in the same place I was before. I haven’t deviated from what I said (I will not keep Chandika if elected as BCB president),” Faruque had said.
