IND Vs BAN: Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl first

The first Test between India and Bangladesh is underway and as the toss happened Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl first. One big change that we noticed in India’s Playing XI was Team India announcing 3 pacers and 2 spinners. Although it has been easily identified as the spiritual home of Chennai Super Kings in recent times, it boasts a proud history in Test cricket – a venue that has been home to the love of red-ball cricket in this region since 1916 and the Presidency matches. The first Test here was in the 1933-34 season when England, under Douglas Jardine, played CK Nayudu’s India. It will be the 35th Test match played at this celebrated venue.

Banglandesh’s Playing XI:  Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto(c), Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das(w), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana

India’s Playing XI: Rohit Sharma(c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant(w), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj

Chennai’s Pitch: The decision to play 3 pacers might go in India’s favour as the pitch of MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai has red soil which will provide quality bounce which will in turn provide huge support to the pacers.

The red soil has been imported from Mumbai, even though Chepauk used to have black soil which used to provide help to the spinners but with red soil now the conditions are likely to change towards pace.

Bangladesh seamer Hasan Mahmud made excellent use of the pitch conditions, dismissing star Indian batters Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6). India will need to focus on rebuilding their partnership to stabilize their innings. It’s clear that the pitch is offering quality bounce, which is proving helpful for the fast bowlers.
