IND Vs BAN 2nd Test, Day 1: Akash Deep’s Twin-Strike Rattles Bangladesh In A Rain-Marred Day

The day 1 of the second Test match was an overcast day with a lot of cloud cover, but the pitch offered variable bounce to the ball for both seamers and spinners.

IND vs BAN 2nd Test, Day 1: The second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur saw rain and poor light on the first day spoiling much of the action. India had responded at the right time with a decision to bowl first but exerted a strong influence in the game right from the first session as three important wickets fell, including that of skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for 31 runs.

Overcast Conditions

It was an overcast day with a lot of cloud cover, but the pitch offered variable bounce to the ball for both seamers and spinners. Yet, batting wasn’t altogether impossible, as Shanto and Mominul Haque put together some solid partnerships, adding 51 runs together before Shanto was dismissed LBW by Ravichandran Ashwin.

Akash Deep Shines With The Bowl

Mominul Haque, unbeaten at 40, batted with plenty of composure and skill against both the pace and the spin. The bright spot for India was Akash Deep, who finished the day with 2 wickets for 34 runs. Jasprit Bumrah didn’t get a wicket but was a persistent threat. Early wickets by Deep sent off Zakir Hasan, duck, and Shadman Islam, who had looked much more fluent until that Lbw off a sharp delivery from Deep.

Rain-marred Day

The day was action-packed as both the teams consumed five reviews in 24 overs, more than the four reviews used throughout the Chepauk Test. Deep’s early wickets gave India a much-needed impetus, though Mominul’s cautious approach kept Bangladesh interested in the game. It was bad light coupled with relentless heavy rain that cut short the second session and brought an early termination to the day.

All will be gazing at Mominul on the second day to see whether he can lead Bangladesh to a better position.

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
