Despite being 91/6 on Day 4 of IND vs AUS 4th Test, Australia ended the day at 228/9 with a lead of 333 runs against India. The last pair of Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland have added unbeaten 55 runs for the tenth wicket and played over 18 overs. Both the players have showcased brilliant resistance and patience at the crease, which would have certainly frustrated the Indian team. At one point, the visitors were in a positon to keep Australia’s lead within 280 runs giving them a solid chance to chase down the target on Day 5 and win the match. However, with the lead crossing over 330 runs, it is very much possible that the Indian team might receive a target close to 350 runs when they come to bowl on Day 5.

Marnus Labuschagne Reveals Reason Of Australia Not Declaring Innings On Day 4
Australia had the chance of declaring the innings on Day 4 itself as any target over 250 runs on Day 5 of a Test match is tough in the fourth innings. However, the Aussies didn’t choose to declare, which rose this question in the minds of the fans. Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne answered the question while speaking in the press conference. He said, “I think we had the perfect game for us and that probably looked like having to bowl tonight and putting them under pressure. You know the way the wicket played and the way India’s bowling came out and put us under the pressure in that first 40–50 overs. That wasn’t an option for us. It became ‘let’s get as many runs as we can.’”
The Indian team will surely have a stiff task in its hands when they comeout to bowl on Day 5 of the Boxing Day Test. However, despite conceding the score of 474 runs in the first innings, the visitors are well and truly not ruled out of the match. The Indian team successfully chased down 326 runs in Brisbane on the previous Australia courtesy of heroics from Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill. The Indian team need to bring out its best game with the bat and senior players including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will have to take responsibility and if such happens the Indian team can surely end up on the winning side in the match.
