Indian batter Shubman Gill will be one of the go-to players Team India will be dependent during the India vs Australia 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Shubman who has looked in decent touch during the previous Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand debuted in Test cricket during the last Australian tour. Gill has been scoring hundreds in the second innings and his ability to build the innings will certainly benefit the Indian team. The number three position has been held by many Indian cricketing greats including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara. Especially, Pujara built an important partnership with Gill during Team India’s famous Test win at ‘The Gabba’.

Rahul Dravid Praises Shubman Gill

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, former Indian head coach Rahul Dravid heaped praise on Shubman Gill and believed that he has the best chance to succeed at number three. Dravid added that he is certainly different than him and Cheteshwar Pujara. Rahul Dravid said, “Well, they’ve got Shubman Gill, who is a terrific player. He’s had some great success in Australia the last time. Everyone talks about Rishabh’s 80 [89] and rightly so, but I think Shubman got 91 to set the game up on that fifth morning. So no, he’s a fine, fine player, he’s a great kid, and he’s learning. Bats differently, slightly, to me and Pujara, but still a very, very good player.”

Shubman Gill has been under the guidance of Rahul Dravid since his U19 days. The latter emerged as the Player of the Tournament in 2018 U19 World Cup and slowly performed well to become a reliable top order batter for the India National Cricket Team. Gill will once again look forward to play as per his potential. The right-handed Indian batter has been a brilliant batter against the short ball and may not be trouble by bouncy wickets in Australia.
