Debutant Harshit Rana helped Jasprit Bumrah-led India dismiss a dangerous-looking Travis Head in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia on Friday. Head was clean bowled after an aggressive 11 runs off 13 balls. He was beaten by a quicker delivery from Rana and had his stumps rattled.
Head came to the crease in the seventh over when Australia were reeling at 19/3 with both of their openers and Steven Smith dismissed. He made his intentions clear when in the 10th over, he smacked Rana for two fours. However, the Indian bowler had the last laugh when he got him out in the 12th over.

Earlier, in the day, captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and chose to bat first. Team India were bowled out for 150 runs in 49.4 overs. All-rounder Nitish Reddy was the top scorer in the innings as he hit 41 off 59 balls. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood took four wickets including that of Kohli.
The visitors had a terrible start as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck when the team score was just 5 runs. The No. 3 Devdutt Padikkal then struggled to get off the mark and was dismissed for a duck after playing 23 balls. India lost half their side at the score of just 59 runs. A 48-run partnership between Rishabh Pant and Reddy helped the visitors go beyond 120 runs. However, after Pant’s dismissal, Australia quickly wrapped up India’s tail.
